As its name suggests, this wine is produced in very limited quantities representing our best barrels of Pinot Noir. Each year, the blend is unique, composed of a few barrels that exhibit extraordinary character and depth. Stylistically, this 2023 vintage wine continues what has been established in our classic Carneros blend. It is a careful assembly of two clones of Pinot Noir – 62% Swan and 38% Hanzell, leading with the Swan clone hand selected barrels from The Famous Gate blend. Perfect ripeness, integration, and balance come together with French oak barrel aging for 18 months to produce a wine with magnificent presence and gravitas – along with grace and suppleness which are hallmarks of Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

The nose on this vintage of our Limited Barrel Selection opens with aromas of dark cherry, crème de cassis, and warm baking spice. The palate is rich and opulent, with layers of baked fig, black cherry, and tobacco leaf framed by chewy, structured tannins. Dark and brooding yet remarkably vibrant, this is the pinnacle of our Pinot Noir, comprising eight of our best barrels of the phenomenal 2023 vintage. Spectacular now, it will continue to evolve over the next decade.

Vineyard Notes

We began the 2023 growing season with replenished reservoirs and saturated soils due to a tremendous 40” of rainfall after years of drought. The combination of record rainfall and a cool summer climate allowed for extended hang time and yielded a significant crop. Harvest of the Pinot Noir grapes destined for our still wines began on September 19th and continued at a slow and steady pace through mid-October, allowing for extended flavor development in the berries. The 2023 vintage with its stellar growing conditions and abundant yields resulted in beautifully crafted wines to celebrate for years to come.
