Our Tula Vista vineyard is located just west of the Donum Estate on Ramal road, a few short miles from the Château. We purchased this 70 acre site in 2012. In early 2014 we finished re-establishing the vineyard by planting 29 acres of Chardonnay and 22 acres of Pinot Noir. This site of rolling hills and clay loam soil perched right on the edge of the San Pablo Bay is exposed to tremendous wind and fog, and is guaranteed to offer us an exciting new element of Carneros terroir. This 2022 vintage is the third Pinot Noir release from this vineyard.

Tasting Notes

The aroma presents notes of baked cherry and boysenberry with hints of tarragon and coastal fern, balanced by a warm, toasty note from the extended barrel aging. On the palate, a delightful, juicy entry punctuated by dark fruit, sassafras, and cedar leads to a long, polished finish. This wine has a velvety texture and is enjoyable to drink now, and will also reward those who wait.

Vineyard Notes

An early winter downpour and spring rains filled our reservoirs after two consecutive drought years. The 2022 growing season was consistent and mild with the moderating influence of the Carneros marine layer allowing the grapes to mature slowly. Ten days of heat in early September were mitigated by high humidity and irrigation, but grape maturation was accelerated, and our fast-paced harvest was completed by September 15th. An eventful season yielded a remarkable vintage with voluptuous wines balanced with vibrant acidity.

Winemaker Notes

15 Months Barrel Aged in French oak, 42% new. Clones: 60% Dijon 115, 30% Calera, 10% Dijon 943
