Domaine Carneros grows over 20 clones of Pinot Noir, each one hand selected for their unique contributions to our sparkling and still wines. In years when one clone shines bright, we choose to release it separately. We first bottled the Pommard clone separately in 2009, and since then we have kept our eye on this consistent performer. This single block wine was handled with gentle destemming of the fruit, and a traditional Burgundian-style open top fermentation that allows the delicate nature of the Pommard fruit its full and unadorned expression. Only the free run wine was transferred to French oak barrels, selected for flavor and restraint to complement the texture of this unique Pinot Noir.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromatically, the 2021 Pommard Clone opens with hibiscus and bergamot notes mingling with ripe dark berries and sandalwood. The palate is bursting with more red fruit, including Bing cherry and pomegranate with a note of saddle leather. Brambly herbal notes persist on the finish due to the whole cluster fermentation. The fruit is harmonious and the acidity is bright and fresh. This wine with its silky texture and fully softened tannins, presents an abundance of flavor in a low alcohol package.
Vineyard Notes
The 2021 growing season commenced with an early budbreak followed by unseasonably cool spring and early summer temperatures, which helped preserve vineyard health as we entered a second year of drought conditions. Summer temperatures were moderated by the marine layer which allowed the grapes to mature slowly and consistently and resulted in wonderful depth of flavor and concentration at harvest.
Winemaker Notes
100% Estate Grown Pinot Noir. 16 Months Barrel Aged in French oak, 50% new. Clones: 100% Pommard Clone.
Food Pairing Notes
This versatile Pinot Noir pairs with a range of foods and the large format bottle is ready to be shared around the table for your next gathering. Our winemaker TJ Evans suggests rich and savory dishes such as braised rabbit, pork chops with a sour cherry reduction, or lamb tangine with butternut squash and apricots.
