The theme of the 2015 vintage is characterized by a very precise juiciness and quite defined, well polished tannins. The precocious nature of the vintage allows these wines to be enjoyed a very short time after bottling. This particular example provides a rich and satisfying new world style of Pinot with poise and balance.
The pure fruit expression of the "Dijon 667" clone is one of its undeniable hallmarks, and in this example showcases a mixture of red and black berries with fresh strawberry, raspberry and even a hint of blueberry. Three other selections complete the blend, the “Dijon 777” (18%), “Pommard UCD-5” (9.5%), and “Swan” (6.5%). The Swan is usually reserved for our Famous Gate bottling, but in this instance offers a subtle note of tobacco leaf. The resulting blend presents a complex array of fruits complemented by notes of red rose, cedar, and forest floor.
We call it “Le Ciel Serein” and it just might be the most picturesque ranch in Carneros. This site was selected for its rolling hills, diverse exposure, and exceptional soils. Developed between 2002 and 2004, it has been carefully planted to a wide variety of Pinot Noir clones. Year after year it has proven itself by consistently delivering lush, aromatic and exciting Pinot Noir.
The carefully selected blend enjoyed a full fifteen months aging in barrel; 40% newly coopered, French in origin. The wide range of coopers all feature a medium toast so as not to obscure the fruit, and staves that were air dried for 36 months to seamlessly enhance the texture.
