We are thrilled to showcase our La Rocaille Vineyard for our second Single Vineyard Sparkling release. Starting with the 2014 vintage, we have selected fruit from a single vineyard each year that truly exemplifies its site, wholly and vividly. These are special wines: finely detailed singular portraits of each of the five vineyards that comprise our symphonic Estate Brut. We acquired the small La Rocaille vineyard 25 years ago. Its light clay-loam soils are exceptional for the historic clones of Pinot Noir that go into our Sparkling wines. Full and round, the wine's delicate, focused flavors glide long through the finish. Just 315 cases were produced.
We acquired the small La Rocaille vineyard 25 years ago. Its light clay-loam soils are exceptional for the historic clones of Pinot Noir that go into our Sparkling wines. The wine opens with a refined, delicate nose of pear, honeysuckle, and
vanilla, with just a touch of brioche. In contrast, the palate possesses a serious density and drive; flavors of toasted nuts, pie crust, ginger and lime zest linger in a long finish. Even in its youth, this wine shows beautiful complexity and
integration, displaying a richness most typically found in Late Disgorged Sparkling.
2015 started with early bud break, so we braced ourselves for an early harvest. We began with Sparkling on July 31 and Pinot Noir on August 16. This was only the second time in over 3 decades of harvests that we brought in the
Sparkling fruit in July. Although the yields were extremely light, they display a nice concentration and wonderful quality: an A+ vintage according to TJ Evans, our Pinot Noir Winemaker.
Our Château Society Members inspired us to initiate this Single Vineyard Sparkling Series and we’ve crafted it exclusively for them. Soon after introducing our Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Series at the start of the decade, members voiced their desire for a single vineyard sparkling wine as well. To craft these wines, we initially identify the standout vineyard at harvest, noting the fruit that best articulates a sense of place. Then, we taste it as a pre-cuvée to confirm, indeed, it is a truly complete wine with honest, expressive site character before guiding it through the exacting process of méthode traditionnelle. The greatest joy of
crafting a single vineyard sparkling is tasting its unique evolution over time, as all the elements come together in an even more beautiful way than ever expected.
