The 2013 Famous Gate Pinot Noir opens with enticing aromas of black cherry, baked plum, and anise. The same notes echo on the palate, enriched by layers of late summer boysenberry, savory leather and earth. With its silky
texture and mouthwatering acidity, this wine invites enjoyment now and promises further depth and complexity with added cellaring.
Four clonal selections: Swan (65%), Hanzell (12%), Dijon 115 (13%), and Dijon 777 (10%) off our estate vineyards were gently de-stemmed and cold soaked for five days to extract color and aromatics. Fermentation took place in in small open vats, and the caps punched down three times daily. An exhaustive barrel stave selection and aging program tailored to our winery by fine Burgundy coopers including Rousseau, Francois-Frères, and Remond lend supple tannins and warm spice to the wine. The wine was aged in barrels for 15 months, and the final blend was racked once before bottling without fining or filtration.
