2014 Pommard - Clonal Series
Burgundy lovers rarely speak of the color of a wine because it lacks importance in determining quality. This particular wine has a fascinating appearance, as it is utterly transparent and clear, yet also has a dark red hue. Moving on to the aromatics, the nose is initially red fruit oriented presenting crushed raspberry and pomegranate along with floral notes, most notably rose petal. There is more to come, and with a little bit of time in the glass and exposure to the air, this seemingly shy wine begins to open up. On the palate, one encounters sour cherry and black tea with a touch of tangerine citrus. There is a savory spicy side as well, with a touch of tobacco leaf and a little bit of roasted coffee coming in at the end of the lengthy finish.
