In the glass this Chardonnay shows a medium yellow golden hue. The nose offers Meyer lemon, lemon meringue, and lemongrass. But the true appeal of this wine reveals itself when it is first tasted. The entry is juicy with a lovely burst of sweet fruit and a pleasant mouth- watering acidity. The flavors include cashew nut, crème brulee, stone fruit and sweet grass. This is one of our richest and creamiest Chardonnays to date, and the tiny quantity will not last long. 100 cases produced, available only at the winery.
This block has a northerly orientation which enables extended hang time that translates into tremendous flavor development at relatively low sugar levels. The 2017 vintage was no exception. We harvested 2.33 tons of beautiful grapes, slightly bronzed by the sun, on the 5th of September.
Barrel fermentation is the classic way to marry flavors of gently toasted oak to the grapes. One new barrel was incorporated from the Sirugue Cooperage to lend sweetness and spice to the juice. Upon completion of fermentation the young wine was gently stirred to promote contact with the yeast lees and create a creamy texture. Malo-lactic fermentation was inhibited during 15 months sur lie barrel aging.
