The 2016 Famous Gate Pinot Noir opens with enticing aromas of red berries, baked fig, black tea, and hot brick (invoking comparisons to Chambertin). On the palate, there is sweet cherry, enriched by layers of
pomegranate, dark chocolate, and baking spices.
Three clonal selections: Swan (87%), Dijon 115 (9%), and Pommard UCD-5 (4%) were gently de-stemmed and cold soaked for five days to extract color and aromatics. Fermentation took place in small open vats, and the “caps” punched down three times daily. Our exhaustive barrel stave
selection and aging program is custom tailored by fine Burgundian coopers including Rousseau, Francois-Frères, and Cadus which lends supple tannins and warm savory spice. The wine was aged in barrel for 16 months, and the final blend was racked once before bottling without fining or filtration.
